This year rather than buying Christmas cards why not put in the effort to create something more personal for your family and friends?

You don’t need to be a creative genius to make Christmas cards. Most cardmaking supplies can be bought at stores like Big W or Spotlight. Once you have the supplies just develop two or three simple designs that can be reproduced quickly and easily.  Here are just a few ideas to get you started:
What do you need?
White card & red card
2-3 different kinds of Christmas paper
Embellishments like flowers, ribbons & diamantes

Where to start?
Start by creating the base of the card – use the white cardstock to do this. Then gradually add different elements on top of this.

Layer different papers
To make your cards really stand out layer different coloured card and Christmas themed paper. However try and stick to one colour scheme – here we have used the traditional green and red scheme, but gold and red, or blue and white, also work well together.

Remember the embellishments
Outline the edges in a black fine point pen, add a diamante here and there and complete the look with different sized flowers. Try and avoid going overboard though – sometimes the simplest designs are more effective.

Think Christmassy thoughts
Use stencils to cut out Christmas themed words – noel, peace, joy – then stick these onto the card using adhesive foam dots to create a three-dimensional effect.
