Explore everything our city has to offer this summer, from the well-known attractions to the hidden gems.
Outdoors
Freshwater Beach: Freshwater Beach is the hidden gem next to ever-busy neighbour Manly. It’s perfect for children, with a protected beach and gentle waves, yet surfers can still catch a good wave further out. Freshwater provides a much more relaxed atmosphere and is just a short walk away from Curl Curl.
Penrith Whitewater Stadium: Try this if you’re feeling more adventurous and looking for a challenge. Anyone over 12 years old can take on the Olympic-sized rapids for themselves. You can try anything from whitewater rafting and kayaking, to swiftwater rescue.
Wylie’s Baths: If you’re looking to get away from overcrowded beaches and relax, Wylie’s Baths is the place. Go swimming in the ocean pool and then unwind with a massage or yoga class by the sea.
Shopping
Paddington Markets: Open every Saturday no matter the weather, these markets have been working for decades to showcase local
designers and craftspeople. The many stalls sell anything from clothes and jewellery to freshly baked bread.
Pitt Street Mall: This pedestrianised street is home to over 500 speciality stores and many chain stores. Both outdoors and indoors, it’s easy to shop ‘til you drop in any weather.
Food
The Boathouse, Balmoral Beach: The Boathouse sits right on the water at Balmoral Beach, one of the most gorgeous locations in Sydney with views out to the jetty and bay. Open everyday for brunch and lunch, it’s easy to relax out on the balcony and take in the view and tasteful decor for hours. The tables can fill up quickly so it’s best to either visit mid-week, or send in a scout early.
Bourke Street Bakery: This chain of bakeries is renowned for good food. Everything is made handmade on the day, with the freshest ingredients possible. It has locations around Sydney in Marrickville, Potts Point, Alexandria, Neutral Bay
and Surry Hills.
