National Carers Week runs from October 11 to 17 and is a time to recognise and celebrate the contribution that Australia’s 2.7 million unpaid carers make to our nation.
Help raise awareness this National Carers Week by gathering your friends and family for a ‘take a break’ event. Ku-ring-gai Council is getting on board the initiative by offering free painting classes at the Ku-ring-gai Art Centre on Tuesday, October 13th. Participants can take a break from the daily grind and let their creative side show with an introduction to abstract acrylic painting class with Cilla David.
The Council is also offering a free life skills seminar on Wednesday, October 14 at Ku-ring-gai Council Chambers. Guest speakers will provide information on the significance of carers and the importance of their time management, including identifying and prioritising own needs. If you care for someone or know a person who does, come along to hear from speaker Ruth Van Herk, who will bring her knowledge of more than 20 years to the table.
Unpaid carers often find it challenging to take time out of their day and, by taking a break, you can encourage carers to do the same, whilst using the opportunity to inform the community of the support services available for carers and to encourage greater appreciation for their contributions to society.
