West Wyalong
A gloriously historical destination is the warming trove of West Wyalong. No longer will one have to travel to Bath, in England for a restorative Romanesque soak, West Wyalong will do the trick! A quaint wander from Sydney (5 hours), if wheels are your preference… However, Air could prove a more relaxing ride to your chilled resolve. The town’s own airport, a mere 2kms from its centre gives you wings! An attractive option to enjoy the most part of local attractions is the West Wyalong Heritage Walk, personally dependant, a gruelling or joyous 45 minute stroll about the town’s relaxants.
Oberon
Shakespeare’s own King has his reign in our local midst… Oberon will have you mystified! Whether its the sheer magnificence of nature’s limestone light-show in the Jenolan Caves, or Cest magnifique! Lowes Mount Truffiere, for the gourmand too Lassiez Faire for the commute to France (what a bother!), this is the dwelling for dreamers! No, Oberon is not in Athens, but a two-and-a-half-hour hop, skip and jump over the contours of the Blue Mountains. Be braced to be enchanted by the famed arts scene, there is never a dull moment, but never one too busy to trigger an ounce of stress!
Kangaroo Valley
Kangaroo Valley will emancipate the Monet from the depths of the heart, and bring you back to nature sans 70’s-style – it is the 21st century, as they say! The monochrome mossy hills with golden streams (as they appear at sunset) unclasp your mind from its morbid city dependence and give you that long-lusted clarity we all seek! Although their fudge house/ice-creamery establishment might not love your waist-line, it certainly will nurture your soul, when infused with the crisp, meadow air amidst the scene. Every second Sunday, a market is housed at the towns showground, a grand display of local produce, crafts and other memorable novelties.
Galston to Wisemans Ferry
The Galston to Wisemans Ferry will certainly make a day or two of your weekend blissful! Prepare to be transported to colonial times as your vehicle trapses along gravel and dirt, less of obnoxiously modernistic asphalt and tar. Return to the splendour of human achievement without the technology overdose of Sydney! Venture aboard a ferry – that is yourself, your family, and the family car to marvel the little ones and inhale the untouched waterside there are plentiful majestic accommodation sites along the way and wonderful food stops to compliment your escape. A family event for the escapist!
Sawtell
Sawtell is the next best kept secret you’ll be sure to tell! A marvel of nature with its crystal and sand beaches to the East, sparklingly serene lagoons North and South, and a looming, beautiful mountain range to its West. Enclosed in this cocooning retreat, is a demure community hub that humbly boasts a heritage listed cinema, a sophisticated shopping centre and a main street facade emblazoned with sizable fig trees. Water activities in the pure paradise are common, e.g. swimming, snorkelling, fishing. Many children will also enjoy a local BMX track, as parents may prefer sports like croquet, bowling and golf. This entire low-key journey is either a five-hour drive or a plane trip to Coffs Harbour, and an 8km drive South.
